I’m working on my new beginning for my manuscript. This means lots of bike rides and showers are in order, since those are the only activities that seem to get my brain in super-hyperdrive-creative mode.
Otherwise, I’ve been reading.
Have I told you how much I love reading?
Ahhhhh…reading.
Reading at stoplights. Reading in the drive-thru. Reading when you're waiting on a train. Reading while someone else is driving. Reading when I should be sleeping.
I wish my job was to wake up every morning, make some tea, sit on my porch and READ.
If you would like to hire me to do this, I have an extensive reading resume. lol. I seriously drive to work thinking, “How can I earn a living by reading in my pajamas?”
You could do it, too. We could form a Readers Union, requiring benefits and chocolate and tea.
We could go to lunch at bistros and cafes and read! And then we wouldn’t look silly for sitting at a table by ourselves! And maybe the waiter wouldn’t feel sorry for us and ask us what we’re reading and then we could avoid an awkward situation!
See how great it could be???
I think we should make it happen.
Okay–well, I have to get to work…so, uh, see ya around.
Have a great day!

Oh my God. Sign me up. Kristen and I keep talking about how we are going to quit trying to be writers and be professional readers.

Reading and writing in my PJs is perfect.
A worthy goal, indeed.

I actually bought a book once called, How to Read for Fun and Profit. It had absolutely no useful information, hence my current soul sucking job in the prescription insurance field. But dude, please tell me why you’re not riding a stationary bike so you can read at the same time. I get a solid hour to hour and a half of reading done every day while working out.
But really, I’m surprised some of these agents don’t start a volunteer program where they solicit writers to read manuscripts for them. If they could train people and set up parameters, and find people that they really trusted to help them work through the slush, it would seem to provide a benefit to the agent. I know they have interns who do this already, but I bet there are a lot of hopeful writers who would be willing to do it. It kind of goes along with Nathan’s blog from Monday.
Although we all might start to hate reading if we had to read slush on a daily basis.
I am totally on board. Readers’ Union, UNITE!!!
Your goal looks great for the week, by the way. The thought of a full read-through is always intimidating to me…
I already had to promise that I’d be more careful on my trip this year…last year wasn’t so good ; )

Pay me to read and write? What a life that would be! I get a lot of inspiration in the shower.

Thanks for the comment on my blog! Reading for a job sounds amazing! I’m a librarian who gets to look at books all day, but we don’t get to read at work. I wish! I think that’s as close as I’m going to get.
Man that would be nice. Let me know when you get it figured out, I would be happy to assist you.
